This Spring, BK+L was proud to sponsor the 2011 Community Leadership Award – given to Evanston Community Foundation Executive Director Sara Schastok – at the Evanston Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Dinner. BK+L Partner Jim Pepa delivered the following remarks:

We at Brown, Kaplan & Liss are thrilled and honored to sponsor the 2011 Community Leadership Award. As a resident of Evanston since 1962 and as a long term Evasnton Chamber of Commerce member, Brown, Kapan & Liss understand and appreciate the importance of the words “community” and “leadership”and believe in investing in our own backyard. As members of the Evanston community, we’re not healthy if Evanston isn’t a healthy, vibrant community.

That is why, over the years, Brown, Kaplan & Liss and its principles have supported such community based organizations as the United Way, the YMCA, Evanston Public Library, the Evanston Historical Society, and of course the Evanston Community Foundation. Currently, our partners and staff are actively involved in such community organizations as the Evanston Lighthouse Rotary Club, Connections for The Homeless, Turning Point, The Talking Farm, Housing Opportunities Development Corporation and The Evanston Chamber of Commerce, as well as others.

We’re grateful to people like Marion and Bob Kurz, the 2010 recipient of the Community Leadeerswhip Award, and to this year’s recipient Sara Schastok, for leading the charge to help Evanston thrive now and as far into the future as we can see. Here is Marion Kurz to present the 2011 Brown, Kaplan & Liss Community Leadership Award to Sara Schastok.”
